Procedure Areas
All general dentists receive endodontics training in dental school. However, for more challenging cases, a general dentist may refer their patient to endodontic specialists.
Root Canal
Have you been told you that you need root canal treatment? If so, you’re not alone. Millions of teeth are treated and saved each year with root canal, or endodontic treatment.
Endodontic Retreatment
In rare cases, root canal therapy fails to work as expected. An additional procedure may be able to support healing and save your tooth. If you have pain or discomfort in a previously treated tooth.
Pulpotomy
A pulpotomy is also referred to as a “baby root canal” because it is usually done on baby teeth. It is a very common procedure in children and has a reasonable good prognosis of success.
Apexification
Apexification is a treatment used to seal an open apex. The apex is the bottom part of a tooth’s root.

An apicoectomy is done only after a tooth has had at least one root canal procedure and retreatment has not been successful or is not possible.

Steven Elkhal, D.M.D.
Dr. Elkhal was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He completed his undergraduate studies at Lewis and Clark College. From there, he attended Dental School at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Elkhal went on to become an Endodontic Specialist, at Albert Einstein Medical Center I.B Bender Division of Endodontics, also in Philadelphia. Dr. Elkhal is currently a member of the ADA and the American Association of Endodontists.
Patients can expect high quality treatment in his practice. He values continuing education and thrives to stay current with the latest and greatest treatment options. He is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists and respected in the dental community.
